Our Visit to The Pittock Mansion

Last Friday, we all decided to get out of the house and see a bit of Portland. We went to PF Chang's for lunch and then we decided to see the mansion in all of its Christmas glory. If you have ever seen this famous bit of Oregon history, you know that the road up to the mansion isn't the widest of roads. There was still snow up on top of this Portland hill from last week's storm. Mom had her hands covering her face for the drive up and the was some moaning as Josh made his way up to the parking lot. When all was said and done and we had made it to the bottom of the hill an hour later, Mom said she loved the experience and it was one of the best times ever. Go figure!

The view from the grounds was amazing. We got there just before the sun started to go down and the snow clouds rolled in. We could see so far. If you are planning a trip, at it a clear day in Portland, that's the day to see the Pittock Mansion! While we were touring the ho,me, it started to snow outside and it was so beautiful.

The famous smoking room that they believe wasn't really smoked in. There was no smoke damage to the walls so they believe it wasn't used very often.
Can you tell how they are huddling how cold it was outside? Brrr...
The house still had all of the Christmas decorations up. Everything decorated as it would have been during the times the Pittock family lived in the house. The above picture is in the living room that over looks the large portion of the front grounds. The below picture is of the dinning room.Mom, Sarah, and Dad on the marble staircase.
The side exit as the sun began to set.

I love this painting of Georgiana. She has a sweet smile. The painting hangs in the hall on the second floor where all of the bedrooms are.

The view from the landing on the marble staircase looking out toward the out building.

Sarah had never been to this little gem of Oregon. It was fun to share the moment with her.

I didn't see the last season of The Amazing Race but I am told that the season ended in Portland at The Pittock Mansion.
Afterwards, as we headed toward the car, Josh caught Mom off guard and put snow down her back. She jumped and wiggled while all the time screaming as the cold snow melted down her spine. Someone had been so kind to create a pile of snow balls not far from where they were standing and Mom took the opportunity to use them on Josh. It was good times as everyone laughed and watched Mom (who by the way has a good arm) hit Josh a few good ones and we ducked while Josh got Mom a couple of times too. On the way down the hill into downtown Portland, Mom kept saying how nice it was that someone left those snow balls just for her and how much fun she had had on our little adventure.
